Prof. Lee Yeon-Seung(1968) is a faculty professor at the department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and the director of ocean systems research center, at Hongik University(2016) of Korea. She received her doctoral degree(2000) from the Technical University Berlin and subsequently worked for the two largest shipyards of the world, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI, 2000-2005) and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME, 2006-2010), during the first decade of the millennium. She is a leading figure in Korea’s shipbuilding and offshore wind energy industries. She also served as the chairman of the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority (KOMSA) under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Korea for the last three years(2017.12-2021.02). Currently, she is serving in various fields such as the director of the Ocean System Research Center at Hongik University, and the editorial member of the Society of Naval Architects of Korea, the international technical committee of the TEAM conference, and a member of the Korea Navy advisory board.

Dr. Shin, a legend, in the Korean shipbuilding industry, has been the spear head in the development of Korea’s maritime and shipbuilding industries. He has dedicated his entire life in steering and perching Korea at the forefront in the world of shipbuilding industry and shipbuilding technology. He graduated in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from Seoul National University, Charlmers Technical University, Sweden and Durham University, UK, in the mid 50s, prior to embarking on a wide ranging career spanning both private and public sectors. He laid the basic framework for the growth of Korean shipbuilding and marine industries during the period of his government service and was the arrow head in making Korea the most advanced shipbuilding nation in the world. In May of 2006, the World renowned industry press, Lloyd’s List in UK, praised Mr. Shin’s achievement by appropriately, crowning him as “The Father of Shipbuilding” who shows no sign of ever slowing down. In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Busan National University in 2019.

Dr. Kim Boo-ki is the President of the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) (2019~), a government-funded research institute in Korea. After completing his bachelor's(1982~1986) and master’s degrees(1986~1988) in naval architecture from Seoul National University, he obtained a Ph.D.(1994~1999) in naval architecture and marine engineering from the University of Michigan, USA. He has worked at the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) in Houston(2001~2013) and has served as the Vice President at Samsung Heavy Industries(2013~2017), with extensive academic knowledge and industry experience. Currently, he is acting as an appointed member of the Presidential Committee on Carbon Neutrality by 2050, a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK), and Chairman of the board of directors for the Korea Center for International Maritime Safety Cooperation Center (KMC) under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. He has been establishing various domestic and international industry-academia-research cooperations and leading research activities associated with technological innovation in ship and ocean engineering fields such as eco-friendly ships, autonomous ships, offshore plants, offshore renewable energy, and maritime safety.

Stavros joined Anangel Shipping Enterprises S.A. in 1981 as a Fleet Manager a position which he held until his appointment to Managing Director of Maran Tankers Management. He obtained LL.D at Korea University and LL.M from the University of Texas at Austin. He acted as legal adviser for Korean government to the IOPC FUNDS, UNCITRAL Transport Law Project and Legal Committee of the IMO. He acted as the president of the Korea Maritime Law Association. He was also a member of revision committee for Korean Commercial Code Maritime Law Section. He is a member of the Planning Committee of CMI. He is a legal consultant for IMO. He was the chief advisor for the minister of Korea Ocean and Fisheries Department. He published several English articles on maritime law in the journal of maritime law & commerce. Dr. Jong-Hyuk BAEK studied the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology(KAIST) and has been successively working in the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute(KAERI). He has been active in nuclear fuel and reactor development for various nuclear systems and project management field over 30 years. He has lots experiences of the Pressurized Water Reactor(PWR) projects such as the development of nuclear fuel localizing project, the development of the Korean Standard Nuclear Power plant(KSNP), and Advanced PWR Fuel project. He also participated in the development of the Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor(SFR) project from 2007 to 2012. He had a lot of experience on the project manager. He was in charge of the project management in the government SFR Agency(SFRA) to develop Prototype Gen-IV SFR(PGSFR) from 2013 to 2019. After then, he was a Senior Vice President for the SMR development including PWR-type and non PWR-type reactor systems at Innovative Nuclear Reactor Systems Directorate in KAERI. He is currently working as a Senior Vice President at Nuclear R&D Policy and Planning Directorate in KAERI. Dr. BAEK is a Korea’s representative and vice-chairman at the Gen-IV International Forum(GIF) under OECD/NEA, which is consisted of 14 nuclear industrial countries. He is also a member of the Nuclear Use and Development Specialized Committee under the Atomic Energy Promotion Committee.

Dr. Ma Chang-mo majored in fisheries management at Pukyung National University(2001) and agriculture economics at Seoul National University (2017). He has been working at the Korea Maritime Institute(KMI) under the Prime Minister's Office for 17 years and has conducted research on fisheries policies, international fisheries and aquaculture industries. Ma Chang-mo is a director of the Korea Fisheries Management Association, secretary general of the Future Aquaculture Investment Forum, and a member of the Ministry of Industry's Science and Technology Level Assessment Committee. Marcio Castro de Souza is a Senior Fishery Officer for international trade responsible for trade and markets at the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division. He is also the Secretary of the FAO Subcommittee on Fish Trade (COFI:FT), the leading global forum for consultations between countries on technical and economic aspects of international trade of fisheries and aquaculture products, including production and consumption; and the coordinator of GLOBEFISH – a specific FAO project responsible for the dissemination of information and analysis on international trade and markets of fisheries and aquaculture products. The main activities of Mr. Castro de Souza include the development of studies, projects, analysis, and policy orientation on topics related to international trade and markets on fisheries and aquaculture products, including market access aspects and regional trade agreements; their interconnectivity and the main existing instruments regulating fisheries activities internationally, as well as their impacts on trade, markets, and sustainability. His work area also covers the deliverable of training on fish trade and the development of trade and economic topics and associated studies requested by FAO Members in COFI:FT. Mr. Castro de Souza is a jurist and holds a master’s degree in International Law and Economics (Magna cum Laude) from the Universities of Berne, Fribourg, and Neuchâtel. Before joining FAO, he worked for the Brazilian Government in agriculture and fisheries, in different senior positions always associated with international trade. Previously, he worked with international capital markets in the banking sector and a government agency responsible for regulating international trade in Brazil.

Dr. Suh Jin-kyo is a senior research fellow of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), a leading national policy institute in Korea. Dr. Suh was a visiting scholar and adjunct professor of the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C. in 2016-2018 and was a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Market and Trade Economics Division (MTED), Economic Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2013-2014. He previously served as special trade advisor to the minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy in 2014-2016 and provided commentary and analysis to the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) during 2005-2016, Korea’s leading public service broadcaster in the country. Prior to moving to KIEP, he worked as a research fellow at the KREI for 17 years(1989-2005). Dr. Suh has published a wide range of books, reports, and opinion pieces in Korean on Korea’s trade policy. He holds Masters and Ph.D. degrees in agricultural and resource economics from the University of Maryland at College Park, and a B.S. and M.A. in agricultural economics from Korea University in Seoul.

Prof. Kim Han-ho received his Bachelor and Master degree in Agricultural Economics from Seoul National University(1984), and his Ph.D. in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota, USA (1995). He has been a professor at Seoul National University for 26 years. His fields of education and research include international trade and agricultural commercial policy, economic development and agriculture, and international development cooperation. He has been active in various fields such as the Government Trade Policy Advisory Committee, the Government Performance Evaluation Committee, the National Financial Project Evaluation Committee, the National Intellectual Property Committee, and the Legislative Support Committee of the National Assembly.

Prof. Kim Do-hoon is a professor at Pukyong National University of the Republic of Korea. Prior to this, he was a senior researcher at the Korea Maritime Institute and a research specialist at the National Institute of Fisheries Science of the Republic of Korea. He earned his doctorate from the University of Delaware, USA. His research interests include fisheries economics and management, aquaculture economics, and seafood market & trade. He was a research leader on Gijang Sea Mustard ASC-MSC Certification Project in Korea. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of the World Aquaculture Society, Fisheries Science, Marine Policy, Sustainability, Ocean and Coastal Management, etc. He was an external expert of Republic of Korea in OECD and he is currently a member of several organisations such as a member of the evaluation committee of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, an expert member of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and a member of Human Dimension of PICES.

Recently CHART led and authored cruise tourism strategies for the Philippines, South Pacific Tourism and Papua New Guinea, conducted a market/operational appraisal for a new cruise port in southern China and another in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City. CHART developed the seminal 2013 White Paper on the Asia cruise industry, conducted CLIA’s Asia Cruise Trends projects 2014 to 2018 and CLIA’s subsequent annual Asia Cruise Deployment & Capacity reports.Ted is a frequent speaker and moderator at global cruise industry events. Dr. Choi Bok-kyoung majored in Physics at Sungkyunkwan University, and has been involved in underwater acoustic research for 30 years at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology. Dr. Hee Cheol YANG is currently a Principal Research Scientist and Director General for the Ocean Law and Policy Institute, KIOST. He received his Ph.D in international law of the sea and Chinese law from the National Taiwan University in 2006. His specialties are maritime boundary delimitation and marine disputes, MSP and MSR. He is also actively leading domestic marine governance including the enactment and revision of laws relating to marine issues in Korea. He has been serving as an expert government consultant on the Korean Committee on Marine Geographical Names as well as on various issues of marine affairs including issues relating to the Law of the Sea, maritime delimitation and other domestic and international marine-related issues of the Korea of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korea Coast Guard, and Korea Navy. Development of Underwater Robots Useful for Deep Sea Exploration in the East Sea

Dr. Pan-mook Lee studied at Hanyang University and acquired a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (1983), and he studied in mechanical engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) for master's and doctoral degrees (1985, 1998). He majored in adaptive control of autonomous underwater vehicles in his PhD. Since March 1985, he has been employed by Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO). He has been in charge of research and development of unmanned underwater vehicles for 37 years. He was in chare of the R&D project "Development of an advanced deep-sea unmanned underwater vehicle“ supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF). Through this project, a 6,000-meter class remotely operated vehicle (ROV) ‘Hemire’ was developed in 2006, and an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) ‘Isimi’ was developed in 2009. The core technologies of Isimi AUV was transferred to a company in 2010. As an Advanced Concept Technology Development (ACTD) project of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), he had been the project manager of "Autonomous Maneuvering Unmanned Mine Disposal Vehicle (MDV)". The MDV was judged for military use and the vehicle has currently deployed to the Korean Navy. Recently, he has been participating in the MOF’s R&D project "Development of treatment technology (removal, collection and treatment) of marine bio-fouling on ship hull" to develop high-precision underwater navigation of in-water hull cleaning robots.

Dr. Woo Su-han is a Professor in the Department of International Logistics at Chung-Ang University in South Korea. He graduated with BA in Economics from Seoul National University in South Korea in 1998 and was awarded a PhD in Cardiff Business School in 2011. Prior to the current position, he worked in the Korean Ministries which deal with transport and logistics policies for more than 10 years and was involved in a wide range of maritime transport related policies. His research interests centre on effective management of international logistics and transportation focusing on shipping and port management. His research has recently been extended to supply chain management including topics such as integration of transport and logistic into supply chain networks. She is vice president of the China Society of International Law. She is an adjunct professor of Wuhan University, Xiamen University and Zhejiang University. As a legal expert, Prof. ZHANG Haiwen has participated several bilateral negotiations on maritime issues between China and its maritime neighbors, and multilateral negotiations including the BBNJ negotiation organized by the United Nations at present. She has been engaged in research on the law of the sea and maritime policy for 30 years and had managed more than 200 research projects. She published more than ten books. She received her doctorate in international law from Peking University in 1995. She has served as Director-General, the Department of International Cooperation (2013-2017) and Director-General, Legal and Policy Office (1997-2003) of the former State Oceanic Administration (SOA) and a Judge of the Intermediate People's Court of Jianyang District, Fujian Province , P.R.China (1984-1989).

Bae Ki-beom graduated from Dong-A University's Department of Industrial Design, went through a master's degree in art engineering (human engineering) at Kyushu Arts and Technology University in Japan, and a doctorate in art engineering (human engineering) at Kyushu University. Bae Ki-beom is the head office of promotion in charge of urban public design and social service design at the Design Council Busan, a foundation created by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Busan Metropolitan Government. Bae Ki-beom served as an advisor to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, as a member of the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Advisory Board. and is currently a member of the Busan North Port Integrated Development Promotion Committee of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Busan Metropolitan City Landscape/Architectural/Pedestrian Safety Promotion Committee, Vice Chairman, Ulsan Metropolitan City Public Design Promotion Committee and Urban Regeneration Committee Member.

Dr. Jae hyun Park majored in craft design (Bachelor of Fine Arts), Industrial Craft (Master of Fine Arts), and Digital Design (Ph.D. in Design) at Kyungsung University. From 1998 until joining the Design Council Busan, he served as an adjunct professor in design majors at Kyungsung University, Dongmyeong University, Dong-a University, Shilla University, Dongbusan University, Dongju University, Busan Gyeongsang University, and Busan University of the Arts. From October 2006 until now, he has been working at the Design Council Busan (Head office of Support Geneal Manager). In particular, since 2014, it has been planning, attracting, and operating various national projects based on digital transformation (DX). Professor Kim suhwan received a degree in industrial design (1994) from Keimyung University and a master's degree in industrial design (2006) from Sheffield Hallam University in the United Kingdom. He worked as a ship designer for 14 years in the passenger ship design team of Samsung Heavy Industries, worked on a number of overseas passenger ship projects, including Norfolk Line and Stena, and is also the designer of Econuri, Asia's first LNG fuel-powered eco-friendly ship. Since then, he has worked as an executive/chief designer at Jeitek Co., Ltd., a ship/ocean turnkey company, and served as the main architect of the Sea World High Speed Ferry's Queen Jenuvia and the Korea High Speed Ferry. Starting as a large ship designer, he is a ship designer who has carried out the largest number of passenger ship projects in Korea by designing ships of various types such as ferries and fastest ships, and is currently working in the Industrial Design Department of Keimyung College University and is training manpower by opening the only ship interior-related department in Korea. The Queen Jenuvia, which was designed as a chief designer while working at Jeitek Co., Ltd., was selected as the first Korean ship in 2020 in the Ro-pax·Carrier category at The Royal Institution of Naval Architect in the UK. This ship is evaluated as a ship that proposed a new standard for passenger ships by further enhancing the level of domestic passenger ship interior, and has also become an important opportunity for the world to recognize Korea's own passenger ship design grade and construction technology.

Suh Yong-Suk

Director Suh, Yongsuk (born 1964) studied Shipbuilding Engineering at Seoul National University and got Ph.D at Seoul National University. He worked in research and development for 22 years at the Central Research Institute of Samsung Heavy Industries. From 2016 to February 2021, he worked as a Program Director at the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology, where he pursued tasks such as policy and business planning of the domestic shipbuilding and maritime industry. From March 2021 to the present, he has been the Director of the Research Institute of Medium and Small Shipbuilding. Dr. Suh is a member of the Society of Naval Architects of Korea and is also a member of board of directors of several organisations such as the Korea Marine Leisure Network and the MacNet. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee for Busan Port Development Association(BPDA).

It is a company that implements design technology optimized for the Korean marine environment, with 15 technology patents and its own marine brand "PENTARIS". CEO Shin Hong-woo is a director of the Southeast Regional Design Industry Association, a director of the Korea Marine Design Association, a director of the Marine Leisure Equipment Industry Association, and a specialized member of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Evaluation and Management. CEO Chulhun Park majored his Bachelor degree in Industrial Design at Kookmin University (2002-2008) and Master degree of Vehicle Design (2010-2012) at the Royal College of Arts in the UK. He was selected as a PALMER JOHNSON YACHTS scholarship student, the largest super yacht manufacturing company in the Americas, among his master's students in the UK. After graduation, he continued his career at Palmer Johnson Yachts as a Senior Designer in Monaco as a senior designer for about 5 years, and participated in various projects such as the 48m Khalilah yacht, PJ 72 and ETC. He established Parkwood Design in 2016 and has carried out various yacht design projects with Rossinavi of Italy, Tony Castro Design of England, and Latitude Yachts of Latvia. Currently, he is also serving as the chief designer of Latitude Yachts, a Latvian super yacht manufacturer.

Yoon Jang-won, president of the Southeast Design Industry Association, received his master's degree in industrial design from Pukyong National University and graduate school. He is currently doing his PhD in Marine Convergence Design. He founded I-on Design in 2003, and is currently serving as the CEO of I- on Co., Ltd., a comprehensive design company. He has been working in industrial design for 30 years and has been involved in a variety of projects from kitchenware to industrial robots to marine rescue launchers. Selected as product design technology company in 2022. In 2012, he established the Southeast Design Industry Association for the purpose of providing design companies with rights and interests and social service, and is serving as the president of the association. He is currently serving as a steering committee member of the Busan International Design Awards.

Jang Ha-Yong

Dr. Jang Ha-yong is the researcher at BDI(Busan Development Institute), the comprehensive policy research institute under Busan Metropolitan City, studying maritime policies to realize the vision of Busan, the maritime capital of Korea. He took his role as a member of the WOF planning committee, Busan Cruise Industry Development Committee and Technical Advisory Committee of Busan Port Construction Office. In particular, he worked in a variety of areas as a member of the Special Investigation Committee on Sewol Ferry Disaster, the ROK Delegation to the 2nd Arctic Circle Assembly, and Eurasia Expedition from Busan of Busan Metropolitan City.

Sheila Paterson

Sheila joined the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship, COVE, in 2016 as Chief Operating Officer. Located on the deep-water port of Halifax, Canada, COVE is a collaborative space where ocean technology companies can start, grow, and prosper. Sheila builds relationships with industry, researchers, facilitating organizations and governments for the application and commercialization of world-class ocean innovation. Previously, Sheila worked with the Province of Nova Scotia in roles with the Ministries of Energy, Economic Development, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Environment ultimately to enhance the capacity of the local supply chain and advance international links. In the private sector, she led a custom electronics product design group at Cobham Tracking & Locating Ltd. (Orion Electronics), worked in process engineering with high-tech electronics manufacturer Celestica Inc. and in continuous improvement engineering at IMP Aerospace. Sheila graduated from Dalhousie University with degrees in Chemical Engineering and in Science and sits on the Board of Directors for the Ocean Technology Council of Nova Scotia among other volunteer activities.
